  • Minister Mahlangu remanded in custody after State opposes bail
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    July 31, 2009

The MDC Youth Assembly chairperson and deputy Youth Minister, Hon. Thamsanqa Mahlangu has been remanded in custody to 13 August after the State invoked the draconian Section 121 sub section 3 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.

Hon. Mahlangu is facing charges of stealing a cell phone from self styled war veterans' leader, Joseph Chinotimba.

Hon. Mahlangu and his aide, Malven Chadamoyo who is facing the charges were granted a US$50 bail each by Magistrate Kudakwashwe Njerambini.

However, the State through State prosecutor, Chris Mutangadura, invoked Section 121 sub section 3 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which when invoked suspends a bail order from the courts.
