  • MDC Youth Chairman's bail ruling to be delivered tomorrow
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    July 30, 2009

MDC Youth Assembly Chairman and deputy Youth Minister, Hon. Thamsanqa Mahlangu, who was arrested on Tuesday on trumped-up charges of stealing a cellphone, was today remanded in custody to tomorrow when a bail ruling will be made.

Harare Magistrate Kudakwashe Njerambini will make a bail ruling on the case tomorrow morning after he said he wanted time to go through the submissions of the State and defence lawyers.

Hon. Mahlangu and his aide, Malven Chadamoyo who was also remanded in custody are being accused of stealing a Nokia 2310 cell phone belonging to self-styled war veteran leader, Joseph Chinotimba on 17 July.

The arrest of Hon. Mahlangu who is also the MP for Nkulumane comes in the wake of renewed persecution of MDC MPs and ministers.

At least seven MPs are facing trumped-up charges while the party's Secretary-General and Minister of Finance, Hon Tendai Biti, on Tuesday received a letter with a bullet inside it.
