MDC Director-General's passport released
Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
Jul 23, 2009

The MDC Director-General, Toendepi Shonhe, who is facing trumped-up perjury charges had his passport released today by Harare magistrate Kudakwashe Njerambini to enable him to travel to South Africa for studies.

Shonhe who had been ordered to report at Harare Central Police Station every Friday also had his bail conditions relaxed and will report to the police on 14 August.

Njerambini also said he would make a ruling on the main case of perjury on 17 August instead of the earlier date of 14 August.

Shonhe, who is denying the charges, was arrested last month for perjury under Section 183 (1) of Criminal Law and Codification Reform Act and is accused of having lied under oath.

The State is alleging that he falsely swore to an affidavit that three MDC members, Fani Tembo, Terri Musona and Lloyd Tarumbwa had been re-abducted by State security agents in Banket, Mashonaland West, on 2 June 2009.
