  • Inclusive government should review the allowances of all war veterans
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    Jul 23, 2009

The MDC is deeply disturbed by the welfare of war veterans whose pensions are as little as US$40 per month.

This monthly pension is very little considering the plight of our genuine war veterans.

These are men and women who fought to liberate the country. A nation is judged by how it treats its heroes and heroines, men and women who sacrificed their lives so that Zimbabweans can be free.

As we get closer to the Heroes' Day commemorations in August, the government should seriously consider the welfare of our, dedicated sons and daughters of Zimbabwe some of whom lost their limbs so that Zimbabwe could walk again.

It is the view of the MDC that a national fund, supported by every Zimbabwean, the private sector, businesses and other well wishers, be put in place to support our gallant sons and daughters who fought for the liberation of this country.
