We mourn the wife of Prime Minister Morgan R.Tsvangirai
Centre for Community Development in Zimbabwe (CCDZ)
March 09, 2009

The Center for Community Development in Zimbabwe join hands with the Tsvangirai family and other civic organizations in mourning the passing on of Mrs. Susan Tsvangirai, the wife of Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Mr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. Susan died in a car crash on Friday, 6th of March 2009 whilst she and her husband were traveling to Buhera to attend a political rally.

The devastating news is a major blow and drawback to the government of national unity. The tragedy comes on the backdrop of a gratifying maiden speech given by the Prime Minister in the Parliament of Zimbabwe which raised hopes for many impoverished Zimbabweans.

Mrs. Tsvangirai stood beside the MDC President in the struggle for democratization. She was there in 2007 when Tsvangirai was arrested, beaten up and tortured by agents of the former regime of President Robert Mugabe. Susan was a mother figure not only to the Tsvangirais but to the whole nation. She was a loving mother who always preached peace, love and tolerance during her public appearances.

We sincerely hope that the loss of his wife will not affect the Prime Minister in executing his duties in the inclusive government. We proffer our sincere condolences to the Tsvangirai family and wish the Prime Minister a speed recovery.
