The inclusive government deal
Mavambo/Kusile
September
25, 2008
The inclusive
government deal
has now been signed. Dr Simba Makoni and the Mavambo/Kusil/Dawn
movement welcome this development but we are also extremely concerned
at the large size of teh cabinet. 31 ministers, 15 deputy ministers,
governors and another bunch of "appointed" senators and
MPs! Who will pay for this? Whose tax dollars when only 20% of the
working population is emplyed? Will we take money donated and loaned
by the world to first satisfy the consumptive needs of this bloated
government? What change can we expect from the status quo when the
new government is already engaged in Jobs-for-the-boys? We are very
concerned about all this. Our job at Mavambo now is to keep this
government honest, to ensure that we focus on the emergency crises
facing the nation. We still have no cabinet and prices that had
started falling when the deal was announced are now racing into
the stratosphere. Whose interest does this agreement serve then?
We would also like to
update all of you on the process of turning Mavambo into a political
party. On Monday 22 September, Dr Makoni chaired a joint session
of the interim National Coordinating Committee and the National
Management Committee of the Movement. The meeting was attended by
all provincial coordinators from across Zimbabwe. The purpose was
to present to them the final draft constitution of the proposed
party as well as the proposed Policies and Principles. These have
now been taken by the Provincial Coordinators to their provinces
for further consultation and input by our supporters and members.
The drafts will also be posted onto our website very soon in order
to elicit input and comments from all supporters.
We are being methodical
in our approach because this new party is owned by the people, just
as Dr Simba Makoni himself is owned by the people of Zimbabwe.
We urge you to keep the
faith, do not despair. We must all play our part in ensuring that
Zimbabwe becomes a truly stable democracy, eliminating all risks
that may see us fall back into a situation where one man can hold
the entire nation to ransom. We are now fighting for a truly glittering
Zimbabwe, one that not only restores itself to its 1980s heydays
but also catches up with teh 21st century.
We are with the people
of Zimbabwe all the way to finish line.
