  • MDC MP's and Senators meet to discuss legislative issues
    Movement for Democratic Change (MDC)
    May 15, 2008

The New Zimbabwe team, comprising recently elected MDC Parliamentarians and Senators, will on Thursday gather for a two day caucus in Harare where they are expected to brainstorm on the legislative business they will be conducting in order to improve the people's living conditions.

The MDC became the ruling party in the country when it won 99 seats in the House of Assembly and 24 senatorial seats during the March 29 elections. The combined seats of all democratic forces are 110 House of Assembly seats and 30 senatorial seats.

These results show that the MDC emerged as the ruling party in Zimbabwe.

The MDC parliamentarians will also take the two-day gathering to ready themselves for the presidential campaign of President Tsvangirai as he prepares for the second round of the presidential campaign that will see the demise of Zanu PF leader, Mugabe, who appears to be finding it difficult to accept that the people overwhelmingly rejected him in the March polls.

The MPs and Senators have already started work in their respective constituencies.

The MDC Lower House and Upper House candidates will have an opportunity to get expert advice from local and African experts on their new assignments as national leaders of the people of Zimbabwe.

The meeting comes at a time when the party is facing serious challenges in the unprecedented political violence that is being perpetrated by Zanu PF militia and purported war veterans who are moving around in army regalia causing terror in the country.

MDC records show that 33 MDC activists had been murdered by Zanu PF supporters across the country while 2 000 homes, including business premises of MDC members, have been destroyed and burnt.

Over 5 000 MDC members have been displaced from their homes and are seeking refuge at the MDC headquarters and at provincial offices or in churches across the country.
