Confusion
and allegations of corruption continue to dominate the fast track land
reform programme.
On Thursday
15 July 2004, The Herald newspaper reported that the Ministry
of Lands, Land Reform and Resettlement which falls under John Nkomo issued
withdrawal letters to some Cabinet ministers and members of the powerful
Zanu PF politburo with multiple farms.
It
has been reported that a number of powerful politicians were refusing
to abide by the one-man one farm policy called for by President Robert
Mugabe. The culprits must be exposed and if necessary arrested.
Many
Zimbabweans argued from the beginning of the farm invasions in March 2000
that the process was riddled with official corruption and had little to
do with equitable land redistribution to the poor and marginalized black
people. The government has exposed its double standards and how it hoodwinked
Zimbabweans in the process.
It
is now clear that the government sanctioned the violence associated with
the disastrous fast track land reform programme in order to loot the national
resource.
The
war veterans and other rogue elements that were used to commit crimes
against law-abiding citizens have now realised they were used by Zanu
PF politicians. There is need for an inquiry into how acquired farms were
distributed by the greedy potbellied Zanu PF politicians.
