Moyo and Chiyangwa lose battle against Paradza as chaos rocks Zanu

The expulsion of Kindness Paradza, the Zanu PF Member of Parliament for Makonde from the party by the Phillip Chiyangwa- led Mashonaland West province committee last month has backfired.

Paradza was expelled by Chiyangwa’s executive for failing to produce a Zanu PF membership card and for opposing government policies through his banned newspaper. His expulsion was supported by Jonathan Moyo, the junior Minister of State for Information and Publicity in the office of the President and Cabinet, who was not happy about Paradza’s attack of the dreaded Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA).

But in a sudden turn of events, more than 1000 war veterans in Chinhoyi demonstrated against Chiyangwa accusing him of running party affairs like his personal property. This was followed by a high-powered delegation led by Chief Nemakonde that came to Harare and registered its displeasure over the expulsion of their MP.

It is crucial to note that the continued infighting in Zanu PF demonstrates the urgency that is needed to resolve the country’s deepening legitimacy and governance crisis. Moyo’s ubiquitous and pervasive behaviour in every aspect of Zimbabwe’s political life is also a cause for concern and this may put to the fore that he might have joined Zanu PF in order to ‘destroy it from within.’

This seems plausible because Moyo has made several enemies in both the government and in Zanu PF. His role in the expulsion of Paradza has now sucked in the Chiefs who are the rural custodians of Zanu PF.

Through the banning of The Daily News, The Daily News On Sunday and The Tribune and the expulsion of foreign journalists from Zimbabwe, Moyo has destroyed Zimbabwe’s image among civilised societies hence the country’s current pariah status.
