Orphanage of xtreme love
Rejoice Ngwenya
December 10, 2012

He may not be your typical celebrated CNN Hero, yet Desmond Paul possesses love and compassion that few citizens have. A mere 10 kilometres from Harare City Centre along Mutare Road, he has, for the past twenty years, converted his 2-acre plot into the Multi Help Trust [MHT] for abandoned children. Some have gone on in life. Others, from cradle to secondary level, are still under his care. He clothes, feeds and takes them to school whenever his meager resources allow. What love! What saintly motivation!

Life in Harare is hard enough for 'normal- families like ours, but Desmond - the one-handed superman - survives on his knowledge of natural medicines and donations to give his 'children- life-s purpose. This to me is Xtreme Unconditional Love. I don-t know about you, this season of celebration I wish to dedicate it to supporting Desmond and his Happy Troopers. If you are up to it, set aside that small portion of your cake, toy, brick, cement or dollar - to give these children something to smile about this season - even a place in school in 2013!

Here-s a quick look at Des-s needs: By January 2013, there will be 18 primary and 11 secondary children school requiring sponsorship. Apart from food, clothes, water and electricity, MHT will need close to US$11 000 in the first term - a total of about US$30 000 for the year. The retired businessman - a jack of all trades - has committed proceeds from his MHT green pharmacy - a registered natural medicines practice - to construct a double storey dormitory for his little angels. He grows most of the herbs on his plot, and 'employs- aides to look after occasional patients.

Des-s life centres on his 'children-, his practice and church. An avid reader of books on natural medicine and health, his study room is filled from floor to roof with numerous literature on the subject. The children love their home - seemingly relaxed, playing 'pada- and 'nhodo- like any other African child growing up in a loving home.

If you feel moved by the spirit of Xtreme Benevolence this Christmas 2012 and New Year 2013, call Desmond on 0712 221 362 or mail him on multihelptrust@gmail.com. MHT is located on Number 111, Mutare Road, Msasa, Harare.
