  • Of old men and teenage boys

    September 07, 2009

The current deadlock in the resolution of some outstanding issues to the Global Political Agreement (GPA) in Zimbabwe could be traced to failure to involve the wide range of people in the negotiations and discussions for the country and the lack of real commitment to change.

Typical of what happened in Germany with Hitler Zimbabwe is currently run by old men and teenage boys who terrorize ordinary people to conform to ZANU PF rogue thinking. MDC has no power and given the visible developments in last six months in the GNU it is clear that MDC are political amateurs.

That ZANU PF expects the MDC to negotiate with international powers to lift sanctions against individuals who are rogues & thieves that have created a cult instead of fostering a nation where the rule of law prevails is preposterous. ZANU-PF should stop blaming the MDC for sanctions. If ZANU-PF wants sanctions to be considered an outstanding issue, they should be willing to move to the right side of history and learn new ways and unlearn their rogue behavior. They should not appeal to the MDCs to have sanctions lifted. It is quite bizarre that ZANU-PF even voices such thinking. Where is logic with these people? Sanctions must stay in place until there is acceptable change and genuine national healing with those that have committed crimes and are corrupt brought to book. ZANU PF wants the sanctions lifted so that they can access the funds that they have stolen and set aside abroad to continue terrorizing the innocent people of Zimbabwe.

Calling for national prayers by the National Healing ministry of GNU is also ludicrous. For Goodness sake the nation needs to be serious in finding and bringing perpetrators of violence and all corrupt officials to answer for their sins. Churches must call for truth to be told and those that have erred be punished and only then will national healing will only start. The churches themselves are no holy places given the example of Kunonga, former bishop of the Diocese of Harare, Zimbabwe who severed his ties with original structures of the Anglican Church in 2007, naming himself archbishop of Zimbabwe. He has continued to occupy property and use assets belonging to the church. The courts are now embroiled with vindicating Kunonga, a dictator dating back from when he worked with parishes. It does not surprise many that he has supported Mugabe because they are birds of a feather.

Crucial reforms in the media and around repressive legislation in Zimbabwe must be seen and be brought into the context of National Healing. Provision of education, health and other social well being issues need to be brought into the context of national healing. Rumors that ZANU PF is saying that the GNU needs 5-10 years to show fruits is just another issue in the thinking of old men and teenagers. (Who believe that refined diesel can flow from a rock in Chinhoyi.) How much more idiocy can Zimbabweans put up with. The old men are simply buying time so that they die during this period and not face their deeds. Hitler did the same when the end of his evil time arrived —committed suicide and cheated being brought to facing his horrific and evil deeds. ZANU PF is going to go at some point.

The extent and impact of the Zimbabwe crisis on ordinary Zimbabweans is shocking. The number of young people who have been forced to put away their degrees certificates and resort to doing odd, often degrading jobs throughout the world just to survive is painful. The number of people who have become criminals taking advantage of systems in other countries that provide loans to its citizens- a number of unsubstantiated stories about how Zimbabweans who went to the UK took large loans and bought trucks and other interests then change names and passports illegally to evade law and start afresh with another bank are many. Many homes in Zimbabwe built by people in the Diaspora are not from money earned from hard work, it is criminal money. The number of people who have died because of lack of medical care and the rot in all systems is unforgivable. The suffering of old people who had served the country and lost all their savings and pensions—the list of the terrible effects of ZANU PF in power is endless.

The result and depths of the root causes of the crisis in Zimbabwe will take generations to clear. The consequent cause of misery and suffering of the people -is greed on the part of those in authority - ZANU PF and its allies, old men and boy teenagers called green bombers, and their security forces. The security organs long stopped being peoples- organs. Greed has so consumed those in authority so much that they have ceased to care about anything except their excessive desire to accumulate. If only they would steal and create wealth that provides employment for others.

The names of those that have created this crisis will be in the books of this country for ever.
