  • Response to Eddie Cross, "The propensity to self destruct"

Letter in response to Eddie Cross' recent commentary

    Dear Eddie,

The mystery to me is that you seem genuinely surprised by the behaviour of ZANU(PF). They did not self-destruct, they have destroyed Zimbabwe. Big difference! They are happily driving their 4x4s, living in luxury homes and awash with foreign currency, while half of our pauperised population is on life support from sympathetic donors. ZANU(PF) cronies have successfully transferred the wealth of the nation to themselves, while they have destroyed the economic base of our country. As a starting point we need to grasp the fact that they are utterly shameless, care not one jot about anyone but themselves, and can never be trusted.

Which is why it boggles my mind (and those of many other Zimbabweans), that having witnessed their barbarism, greed and duplicity over the last 10 years, the MDC could even contemplate joining ZANU(PF) in government. And, worse, that the MDC could delude itself that it either had sufficient power to twist Mugabe-s arm or think they could sweet-talk him into cooperating. It is just pitiful to see the MDC justifying their Benzs, while they are powerless to stop the last brave white farmers from being thrown off their land. The second fact the MDC must grasp is that they are powerless and that they have indeed been sucked into the ZANU(PF) morass.

And, yes, there is something the MDC can do ...... GET OUT!!

    The MDC should:

    • Declare that ZANU(PF) has failed to uphold the agreement
    • Declare the power-sharing government dead
    • Reassert its claim that it won the only elections recognised by the AU, SADC and the international community and
    • Call for fresh election under the supervision and protection of the UN as soon as possible.

The MDC must once again stand with the people, not their oppressors!

The MDC must stand up for democracy and justice, not the whims of feckless SADC countries!

    Regards,
    Dale Doré
