MDC
shouldn-t hold their march
Edward
Shumba
January 22, 2008
As I am writing
this, I am worried that the MDC defiantly chooses to go ahead with
a demonstration tomorrow to demand the implementation of constitutional
agreements they reached with Zanu PF.
The ZRP and in fact the Joint Operation Command has hinted its heavy
presence tomorrow as the opposition march from Harare gardens in
their so called 'freedom march-.
As a Zimbabwean I feel disturbed by the fact that this march will
result in an unnecessary crackdown on innocent lives that are blindly
following ill advised party ideologies.
The MDC should grow beyond selfish concerns and become a party of
the people lest it falls in the same prey of Zanu PF.
1) Secrecy
The draft constitution which they will be marching for was drafted
by four people on behalf of the country, namely Welshman Ncube sometimes
described as a CIO agent, Tendai Biti tipped to succeed Tsvangirai
and two bogus politicians from Zanu PF.
- this deserves
a strict mention because in any democratic country a constitution
should be authored by the masses and not few 'intellectuals
or technocrats-.
- as long
as it is written by the intellects it remains an academic paper
and not the supreme law of the land.
- what is
more disturbing is that some of those people who will join the
march tomorrow don-t even know the contents of that draft
constitution so the march is there to appeal for media attention
and nothing more.
2) Morals
The constitution is morally corrupt as it failed to respect
proper channels when writing a public document. The MDC by accepting
to be dragged through a garden path by Zanu Pf proved to be corrupt
itself.
In 1999 people of Zimbabwe denied the constitution which had been
written by Zanu PF thugs in secret what makes the current one better.
3) History
Judging with the recent past, the MDC betrayed Zimbabweans by singing
into Act the much criticized 18th
amendments a result of secret negotiations between Zanu PF and
MDC. What can Zimbabweans have faith in the 19th amendment, which
seeks to amend the whole constitution.
As an independent individual who believes have a stake in Zimbabwe
do refuse to be dictated my future, or future protocols of my land
by few people who are nearing a sunset of their lifespan.
As an independent Zimbabwean I urge fellow countrymen to be cautious
when joining demonstrations whose real agent is privy to politicians
alone.
I therefore demand that the MDC stops its march scheduled for tomorrow
and start demanding for a people driven and democratic constitution
which is all inclusive and until then the MDC should relax and save
their bodies from Robert Mugabe-s wrath.
