Why
MDC, why? -Tsvangirai is right
Godwell Manyangadze
November 28, 2005
Why is it that the
MDC is not seeing that ZANU PF cannot be removed through elections? Has
the MDC not noted the suffering of the people under bad economic and political
policies of the ZANU PF government? So why are they attacking this bad
government with the same tactics all the time? Time they change their
ways if they are to remove ZANU PF.
Morgan Tsvangirai
is right this time and all he has to do is to explain to the party why
he decided to ignore the vote of the constitutional organ of MDC. The
National Council can err sometimes in making certain decisions.
Tsvangirai should
tell the party that, as far as his principles are concerned, he found
it fit not to participate in these senate elections. These principles
may not necessarily be stated in the party constitution.
For if the MDC opposed
Amendment 17, which introduced the senate, why would the same MDC vote
in favour of participating in the same senate elections, which the same
party opposed anyway? To turn around now and participate and further burden
the nation with a worthless senate which abuses a lot of money while Zimbabweans
starve, is another sign of a serious lack of principles.
Until Zimbabweans
stop thinking they have enough food and are comfortable, that is the only
time we will start to move forward and think properly. Not enough Zimbabweans
are prepared to leave the comfort of their homes to publicly show a principled
commitment and a willingness to sacrifice for true freedom.
The people who demonstrate
and end up in trouble are from the poor townships. Those from the suburbs
want only to enjoy the fruits of the demonstrations and victimization
of the poor without sacrificing themselves for true freedom. Until every
Zimbabwean realises that sacrifices of life and comfortable jobs and money
should be made for freedom and dignity, we will not solve our problem.
People should be committed
to a public cause without first assessing their personal safety as a priority.
