Commemorating Human Rights Day
Zimbabwe Exiles Forum (ZEF)
December 10, 2007

As the world celebrates Human Rights Day, Zimbabwe Exiles Forum (ZEF) is concerned that violations of human rights continues unabated this year. Human rights are those rights which accrue to human beings by their virtue of being human and as such, they are in-borne, inalienable and equal.

ZEF is concerned that the machinery that has been used to bash political opponents, beat up Human Rights Defenders, lawyers and other activists, deny citizens liberty and other fundamental freedoms, and to commit such atrocities as torture and other crimes against humanity; includes the Army, police, ruling party military (Green Bombers) and the ZANU PF youths.

ZEF hopes that the SADC-initiated political settlement will herald as a matter of urgency, a new Zimbabwe that respects the rule of law, democracy and human rights. ZEF also urges the whole world and the region as a whole to rally behind Zimbabweans, in solidarity, as they continue to suffer human rights abuses on a daily basis.
