Mufakose residents applaud council
Community Radio Harare (CORAH)
November 08, 2012
Mufakose residents
have applauded the City of Harare for resurfacing roads and filling
potholes in the high-density suburb.
Harare city
council embarked on this initiative in August and this has seen
the uplifting of roads such as Mutamba Drive, Crowborough Way and
Mukonde Street which were in a deplorable state.
Jeremiah Tom
who has stayed in Mufakose for the past 32 years said, 'we
are happy with what the council is doing because the roads were
now in a bad state. The drainage systems were now clogging causing
flooding in the low-lying areas of the suburb during the rainy season.'
Another resident
Ngoni Muchiya had this to say; 'We want this to be done not
only in Mufakose but in the whole city. Harare is no longer the
Sun Shine City which we used to know and we want to return to our
former glory. We have been in this community for several decades
but council had only been patching the roads but this year they
removed the tar and replaced it with new surfaces. We are urging
council to repair all the roads and not to focus on the main streets
only.'
"The council
is doing good work but it should speed up the road construction
before the rains. They must also clear the drainage systems which
are filled with soil from the last rainy season,' Memory Chieza
of Cherima Section.
Officials at
the Mufakose District Office who spoke on condition of anonymity
said council was planning to repair most of the roads and added
that they were starting with the main roads.
