Decaying bodies of a woman and a toddler were early this week discovered trapped in a makeshift house they were living in Kuwadzana 5 home industrial site. Eye witnesses said an unpleasant smell attracted them to the site where they discovered the bodies.

'From the look of things the bodies had spent at least one week trapped in the makeshift. The bodies were decomposing with flies seen roving around the dilapidated house. This then made us believe the bodies had spent at least a week without being attended to,' said Keziers Tembo who is a Kuwadzana resident.

'We knew the lady who used to occupy the makeshift house here with her daughter for a long time. It is only that no-one was paying attention to them thus the reason why their bodies went unnoticed for such a long time,' another local old man said.

Residents who discovered the decomposing bodies reported the case to Kuwadzana police who took the bodies to Harare Hospital.

Harare Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedious Chibanda confirmed the incident saying a report was made to the authority.

'I can confirm that the bodies of Lilian Biningu (38) and Dadirai (9) were discovered by the victims' relative on the 4th of this month who had visited the deceased. The deceased where using a car container as their house whose other side was built with bricks. When the informant arrived at the makeshift house he discovered that the brick side of the house had collapsed. Upon inspection the informant discovered that there was a person buried under rabbles before reporting the case to the police.

'It was the police who then discovered that there were two bodies which were decomposing while buried under the bricks, 'Inspector Chibanda said.

He added that the bodies were then taken to Harare Hospital mogue for postmortem.

Inspector Chibanda warned the public against using makeshift houses saying they expose themselves to such dangers.
