Aaron Ufumeli, Newsday photojournalist Arrested while covering a demonstration organised by the women's movement in Africa Unity Square in Harare. 17 July 2012 He was released after police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau liaised with the arresting details and after the photos he had taken were deleted from his camera.
Freelance journalist Thomas Madhuku He is being charged under Section 79 of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act on allegations of tampering with the voters roll and practicing journalism without accreditation. He was arrested at the Registrar- General's Office in Harare . 23 July 2012 Harare magistrate released Anita Tshuma released on 27 July 2012 on $50 bail.
Standard editor Nevanji Madanhire, reporter Patience Nyangove, and Alfa Media Holdings human resources manager. Charged with Criminal Defamation following a publication in The Standard issue of 26 June-2 July 2011 titled:MDC-T fears for missing Timba. 1 August 2012 Remanded to 4 December 2012 while awaiting the Supreme Court ruling on their application challenging that the charge infringed on their right to freely express themselves and to disseminate information without fear or favour.
Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, Webster Shamu The Minister threatened to revoke the operating licenses of media organisations which he accused of abusing media freedom to denounce the country and its leadership. 12 September 2012 Shamu said he would work together with the statutory Zimbabwe Media Commission to revoke the licences.
DDB Hash 3 Police raided the news agency on suspicion that it was operating an illegal television station and arrested its employees and seized broadcasting equipment for allegedly contravening the Broadcasting Services Act. 26 September 2012 Employees arrested and broadcasting property seized.
Crispen Sachikonye, African Open Media Initiative (Private) Limited Police raided the news agency on suspicion that it was operating an illegal television station and arrested its employees and seized broadcasting equipment for allegedly contravening the Broadcasting Services Act. 26 September 2012
27 September 2012
Sachikonye denied the allegations saying they were in fact operating a news agency which is duly registered in terms of the law.
