Congratulatory
statement to Zimbabwe National Editors Forum (Zinef) for electing
new office bearers
Voluntary
Media Council of Zimbabwe
April 11, 2012
The Voluntary
Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) would like to congratulate the
Zimbabwe National Editors Forum (Zinef) for holding a successful
Annual General Meeting where new office bearers were elected.
VMCZ congratulates the new team at Zinef and urges the editors to
work together to enhance professionalism among journalists.
The VMCZ remains committed to working with editors and puts emphasis
on the need to establish ethical standards in the media in order
to build models of accountability as well as effective self-regulation
for journalists.
VMCZ also remains committed to and supports efforts to unite the
various editors' forums operating in the country.
VMCZ will continue to work with Zinef in its role to protect editors
against victimisation for carrying out their duty and will further
urge the editors to uphold their commitment to speak with one voice
in challenging repressive press laws, victimisation from any entities,
arrests and other forms of pressure that threaten the viability
of the profession and media houses.
VMCZ also urges Zinef to continue resisting those laws that impose
restrictions on the media and freedom of expression and those that
are incompatible with a democratic society.

Wednesday 11, April 2012, elected to chair Zinef.
