Journalist released without charges
MISA-Zimbabwe
July 18, 2011
The four Bulawayo-based
journalists arrested
on 15 July 2011 in Ntabazinduna were later released around 4.30pm
on the same day after spending close to four hours in police custody.
The journalists
were arrested while covering the story of a police officer who was
allegedly being evicted from his house after being found in possession
of a music file containing songs praising the Movement for Democratic
Change (MDC-T) on his computer.
The four journalists,
Standard reporter Nqobani Ndlovu and freelance journalists Pamenus
Tuso, Pindai Dube and Oscar Nkala were detained at Ntabazinduna
Police Station, about 40km from Bulawayo.
MISA-Zimbabwe
Media Lawyers Network representatives comprising Matsobane Ncube,
Kucaca Phulu and Kholwane Ngwenya travelled to Ntabazinduna to establish
the nature of the charges against the four. However when the lawyers
arrived at the police station the four journalists had already been
released without charges.
