Zimbabwe Media Commission
MISA-Zimbabwe
June 05, 2009
The Parliamentary
Committee on Standing Rules and Orders has called on Zimbabweans
to apply to be considered for the appointment to serve as Commissioners
on the independent commissions among them the Zimbabwe Media Commission,
as provided for in Zimbabwe's Constitution.
In an advert placed in
the state daily, the Herald on 5 June 2009, the Committee on Standing
Rules and Orders outlined that it drew it's mandate, in terms
of sections 100(b), 100 (k), 100 (n) and 100(r) of the Constitution
of Zimbabwe to nominate candidates for these appointments by His
Excellency, the President.
The Zimbabwe
Media Commission will be responsible for licensing journalists and
media houses to practice in Zimbabwe as well as enforcing ethics
in the media. It shall also preside over what is referred to in
the Access
to Information and Protection of Privacy Act as 'journalistic
privilege' breach of which is subject to criminal procedure.
The Committee also called
on applications from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the Zimbabwe
Anti-corruption Commission, and the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission.
