This report monitors
the political content of ZBC's radio and television programming
especially issues relating to the March 29 elections, during prime-time
listening and viewing. (It does not include the content of the main
news bulletins, which form the basis of separate research).
All stations (Zimbabwe
Television, Spot FM and Radio Zimbabwe) are monitored from 0700hrs-1000hrs,
12 noon-1400hrs and 1700hrs-2300hrs.
Summary
The
electoral authorities continue to take the people of Zimbabwe for
granted by not announcing the presidential results six days after
polling day. No satisfactory explanations have been given for the
delays.
By day's end, ZEC
had not finished announcing results for the senate elections.
Current
Affairs programmes
At
1800hrs, ZBC (all stations) aired ZEC officials announcing results
for 33 Senate constituencies. Of the 33 constituencies, ZANU PF
won 15, MDC (Tsvangirai) faction won 14 and the MDC (Mutambara)
faction won four.
To date, ZANU PF had
won a total of 20 senatorial constituencies, MDC (Tsvangirai) faction
had won 19 and MDC (Mutambara) four. Results for 17 senate constituencies
are still pending and it is not clear when they will be announced.
