  • Prime-time Daily Monitoring Report No.17
    Media Monitoring Project Zimbabwe (MMPZ)
    April 04, 2008

This report monitors the political content of ZBC's radio and television programming especially issues relating to the March 29 elections, during prime-time listening and viewing. (It does not include the content of the main news bulletins, which form the basis of separate research).

All stations (Zimbabwe Television, Spot FM and Radio Zimbabwe) are monitored from 0700hrs-1000hrs, 12 noon-1400hrs and 1700hrs-2300hrs.

    Summary
The electoral authorities continue to take the people of Zimbabwe for granted by not announcing the presidential results six days after polling day. No satisfactory explanations have been given for the delays.

By day's end, ZEC had not finished announcing results for the senate elections.

    Current Affairs programmes
At 1800hrs, ZBC (all stations) aired ZEC officials announcing results for 33 Senate constituencies. Of the 33 constituencies, ZANU PF won 15, MDC (Tsvangirai) faction won 14 and the MDC (Mutambara) faction won four.

To date, ZANU PF had won a total of 20 senatorial constituencies, MDC (Tsvangirai) faction had won 19 and MDC (Mutambara) four. Results for 17 senate constituencies are still pending and it is not clear when they will be announced.
