(MISA/IFEX) - On 23 August 2004, photographer Tawanda Mudimu, of the "Herald" newspaper, was harassed by police officers while photographing Charles Charamba, a prominent gospel musician who arrived at the Harare Magistrates Court for an initial remand hearing.

The policemen, who were escorting Charamba into the court buildings, damaged Mudimu's camera, valued at Z$10 million (approx. US$1,886), as they tried to prevent him from photographing the musician.

According to the "Herald", a report was made at the Harare Magistrates police post. Charamba was remanded to 6 September, on Z$1 million (approx. US$188) bail. He is accused of defrauding the Agricultural Development Bank of Zimbabwe of Z$40 million (approximately US$7,457).

He is jointly charged with former Agribank senior employee Sebastian Mupa.
