Media Institute of Southern Africa - Zimbabwe Chapter (MISA-Zimbabwe)
March 18, 2004

The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has invited applications for a license for the operation of a second national free to air radio and television broadcasting license.

The call was made in a government gazette and will close on 26 March 2004. Prospective broadcasters are obliged to pay an application fee of $10 million Zimbabwe dollars (approximately 13 000US dollars) while the basic license fee is US$1 million or the equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars. Successful applicants will be expected to operate an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) television transmission network capable of national coverage for a period of 20 years.

Prospective applicants are expected to provide a clear roll out plan that includes the target completion dates.
