SW
Radio Africa responds to ban
SW Radio Africa
November 11, 2002
SW Radio Africa
notes with interest that the Zimbabwe government has felt it necessary
to ban the stations employees from returning to their country. This
is obviously a reaction from a regime intent on penalising anyone
who supports democracy and freedom of speech.
The right to freedom of speech is enshrined in the Zimbabwe constitution
and that is what we stand by. We will continue to give a voice to
Zimbabweans who are able to use the station to speak freely.
We would like to bring the governments attention to the fact that
their list of staff members of SW Radio Africa is incorrect. We
call on them to remove immediately the two innocent parties named,
who have absolutely nothing to do with the station. Graeme Counsel
- a person unknown to us. Simon Parkinson - an employee of Highveld
Radio in Johannesburg.
We thank all the brave and committed Zimbabweans who continue to
support and contribute to SW Radio Africa - Zimbabwe's independent
voice.
