Profile of Harare deputy Mayor
Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA)
September 18, 2013

For the next one month, we shall be profiling most of the elected councillors in our “meet the candidate series”, focusing on the inaugurated councillors of Harare. Today we focus on Harare Deputy Mayor Councillor Thomas Musarurwa Muzuva who was elected at a swearing in ceremony presided over by the Provincial administrator of Harare Mr Alfred Tome.

Deputy Mayor Thomas Muzuva was born on the 17th of October in 1972. He did his high school education in Wedza at St Marys mission which he completed in 1992 and attained 7 O’ Levels including Maths and English. He chose to go to Speciss College where he opted to study auto electronics between 1993 and 1994 where he complete his studies. After realising that auto electronics was failing to fit in his desired career path, he then left Speciss and then enrolled at the Harare Polytechnic where he studied printing and origination. He studied at Harare Polytechnic from 1997 to 2000. Upon completion, he chose to open his own printing company called Vandigan Investments where they focused mainly on printing, graphics and designing. In 2008 during the time when the country was facing hyper inflation his company went on a downside which then forced him to join Smooth Edge Designs. Smooth Edge Designs also did printing and in 2009 he bought some shares which subsequently made him one of the directors of the company. He has been with this company as a director to date.

Councillor Muzuva joined the Movement for Democratic Change led by Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai in the year 2000. He acknowledges that then, he and some other colleagues had to approach the trade unionists who were pivotal in the formation of the MDC. He was a branch member and rose to the district level which seconded his nomination to council in 2008. He was elected councillor in 2008 and became the chairperson of the business committee. During his term as chairperson of the business committee, he was influential in striking the Easipark deal, formation of the Harare City Park, Mabvazuva village (former Coronation Park) and other council businesses that were meant to supplement rates.

Councillor Muzuva can be contacted on email at the following address: tmmuzuva@hararecity.co.zw.
