War vets disrupt CHRA/MAZ voter registration survey meetings
Combined Harare
Residents Association (CHRA)
June 21, 2013
A group of overzealous
War vets aligned to Zanu-PF today besieged the CHRA Drop-In Centre
in town and disrupted meetings that are being held in collaboration
with the Media
Alliance of Zimbabwe on the right to access to information on
elections. The CHRA and MAZ had lined up meetings with local ward
structures from 15 wards on their perceptions with regards to access
to information on elections. A group of 8 war veterans besieged
the meetings and demanded that CHRA volunteers and staff immediately
close the offices.
The CHRA Drop
in centre in the City Centre receives about 100 members of the public
each day and today, we were expecting to receive at least 250 residents
to assist in the survey.
CHRA would like
to inform all members of the public, partners and members that the
office will be temporarily closed down until the situation normalises
for the safety of our members.
