Service delivery update week ending 11 June 2013
Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA)

There are lots of dumpsites in Harare’s suburbs especially in Highfields at Lusaka market, in Mabvuku at Kamunhu Shopping Centre, in Mabelreign along Ridgeville Road and Quindon Roads respectively, in Mufakose at Samuriwo, Mukate and Muonde areas and in Mbare between the blocks. Water is still erratic in Mbare as residents are using sewer water for domestic purposes for example block 7 (Matapi Flats). The same goes for electricity supply with suburbs like Mbare flats having gone for a day (Monday) without electricity due to continuous disconnections by ZESA. The table below gives a summary update of the service delivery situation that obtained in some areas during the past week.

Mabvuku Water is available in some areas, Though there has been a perennial problem in the new stands. Load shedding is experienced during peak hours for three hours. Raw sewer has been flowing into the New Stands opposite Lafarge Cement but COH has failed to fix the problem for the past 5 years. Illegal dumpsites have cropped up at Kamunhu shopping Centre due to the failure by COH to collect refuse for the past one month. No cases have been reported to CHRA so far.
Hatfield Erratic water supplies for the past one month Electricity is available and load shedding is experienced for about 4 hours per day in the evening i.e. 4pm to 8pm. Nothing has been reported. Collection was done last week on Thursday. No cases have been reported so far
Waterfalls No water for the past two weeks Inconsistent supply; load shedding at least 2 times a week during peak hours, from 5am 10am. Nothing has been reported Inconsistent collection; refuse trucks are now collecting on Tuesdays instead of Fridays. No cases have been reported to CHRA
Mbare There was no water for the past week. Mbare flats have no electricity on Monday for the whole day. There is a perennial sewer burst at bock 7 (Matapi flats) and residents are using sewer water for domestic purposes. Refuse has not been collected for the past week between blocks 4, 5, 2, 1 and 3 at Matapi flats. Nothing has been reported yet to CHRA.
Dzivarasekwa There was no water for three days last week that is, on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in area 1 and 2. Inconsistent supply; there was no electricity for the past two days. Not yet reported to CHRA. Refuse was collected on Friday in Dzivarasekwa 3 None
Mufakose There was no water on Monday, the whole day. Water burst pipes have been noticed at 21 Maonde Road for the past two days. Inconsistent supply. There was no electricity on Tuesday and Thursday last week, the whole day. Nothing has been reported Refuse was collected at Mupoterekwa area but dumpsites have developed at Samuriwo, Muonde and Mukate area for the past 3years. No cases reported
Highfields Water supply has improved, but there has been water cuts experienced on Saturday to Sunday last week. Load shedding at 6am -12pm, four times a week in Lusaka and Jerusalem. No sewer bursts have been reported. Inconsistent refuse collection. Dump sites are developing at Lusaka market and along Mangwende Street. No cases reported.
Malbereign Water cuts were experienced on Sunday and Monday at the Zambezi Flats, but at Santosa area there has been no water for the past 3 years. Load shedding on Monday during peak hours. None Collection is constant on stipulated days (Mondays); but there are dumpsites that have developed at Ridgeville Drive off Quendon Road. Nothing has been reported.
