BPRA weekend activity report: 05 May 2013
Bulawayo Progressive
Residents Association (BPRA)
May 07, 2013
Bulawayo Progressive
Residents Association held three consultative meetings on community
issues on the 5th May 2013 in Magwegwe (29), Iminyela ( 13) and
Luveve (15). The meetings attended by Ward Councilors, representatives
from Ward Child Protection Committees (CPC) and Basic Education
Assistance Module (BEAM) Committees, were mainly to ensure residents
engage in dialogue with service providers and councilors on service
delivery related issues. Major issues raised by residents include
corruption in the CPC and the BEAM Committees, infrequent refuse
collection which has resulted in the increase of illegal dumping
and environmental problems, and the city’s water crisis. As
part of the recommendations of the meetings, residents will continue
to encourage each other to desist from illegal dumping while at
the same time monitoring if BCC will follow its refuse collection
schedule. Residents also resolved to lobby for an audit of the social
welfare resources channeled through BEAM and Child Protection Committees.
