Service delivery update
Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA)
April 24, 2013

Many suburbs in Harare have been struggling with irregular collection of refuse and in some cases no collection at all. The Waste Management department had been operating with only 20 vehicles but has since added an additional of 27 vehicles in an attempt to improve collection. During a residents public meeting in Glen-View EMA urged residents to desist from dumping refuse in unfitting places and also advised residents to form community groups that process waste material into usable products. Water still remains a grim challenge in most parts of Harare with some areas like Borrowdale and some parts of Mabvuku going for years without water supplies. Councillor Chifodya (of Glenview Ward 30) attributed some of the water challenges as a result of too many water leakages and shortage of water chemicals.
