  • Service delivery update - Week ending 20 January 2013
    Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA)
    January 21, 2013

The Harare City Council has continued to fail residents by not providing basic daily necessities like water. Reports say the most recently hit areas include parts of Glen View and Glen Norah where residents have not had water for the past 2 months. Cases of diarrhea and Typhoid have also increased in these two areas with Glen View being the most affected; Glen View Polyclinic has already set up a cholera and Typhoid tent. There has also been a high rate of sewer bursts in most parts of Harare such as Mabvuku and Glen-View as a result of the rainy season and uncollected refuse. Harare City Council is in the process of chlorinating boreholes sunk by development partners in an effort to avoid typhoid and cholera. The Deputy Mayor, councilor Emmanuel Chiroto admitted that the Council is failing to provide adequate water to ratepayers and said it was embarrassing that new cases of typhoid continue to be reported in the city.
