BPRA meets Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority
Bulawayo Progressive
Residents Association (BPRA)
November 30, 2012
Bulawayo Progressive
Residents Association (BPRA) will be meeting with the Zimbabwe Energy
Regulatory Authority (ZERA) this morning at 10am. The meeting is
part of stakeholder consultations that are being held by the statutory
body as it considers a proposal by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission
and Distribution Company (ZETDC) to increase tariffs. The meeting
will also enhance BPRA's understanding of the mandate of the
statutory body and its current projects while providing a platform
for the association to air its concerns on energy provision in the
country. Issues on the agenda of the meeting include a presentation
by ZERA on its mandate, legal provisions, the tariff review process
and its objectives, and input by BPRA into current quality of service
and its impact on business operations, proposals on new tariff structures
and energy efficiency measures instituted by consumers.
BPRA will use the meeting to register its dismay with continued
load shedding in the country, and continued disconnection of residents
with outstanding bills. On the matter of the proposed tariff review,
the association will argue that an increase in tariffs is ill timed
as the country's economic situation has not improved, meaning
that residents would not be able to cope with a tariff increase.
BPRA believes that the fact that residents have been failing to
settle bills at current levels is an indication that they will not
be able to cope with a tariff increase.
