Chitungwiza residents demand better use for the ratepayers' money
Chitungwiza Progressive Residents Association (CHIPRA)
February 14, 2012

At a meeting organised by Chitungwiza Progressive Residents Association yesterday at Zengeza three grounds, Chitungwiza residents are calling on the six appointed commissioners who are investigating the mal-administration at Chitungwiza Town Council HQ to do a thorough job and leave no stone unturned and recover all stolen monies by the management. This call comes after residents have gone for a week without water. The few boreholes that were donated by UNICEF cannot cater for the most populated dormitory city. The state of roads within suburbs is pathetic; no amount of pot hole filling is going to repair the roads and the drainage system which have seen several dura-walls in Unit L and Zengeza 3 Extension being swept away by the incessant rains. The council should take full responsibility to repair these dura-walls and return the roads to their former glory even without getting them tarred. The city councillors were also urged to be vigilant and exercise their authority and bring to book whosoever wants to bring their work into disrepute.

The meeting was triggered by the non-committal of councillors to give feed back to the residents about happenings at the town house. Residents were perturbed to see the delay in the arrest and dismissal of Godfrey Tanyanyiwa, (the Town Clerk) who is facing serious multiple charges after allegedly defrauding the council of more than US$700 000 of ratepayers money. The residents demanded that CHIPRA should amplify their voice by ensuring that the ratepayers' money is used to enhance better service delivery in Chitungwiza rather than beautifying other cities.

CHIPRA urges all residents to be vigilant against all forms of corruption and report all misdemeanors to avoid concealing of evidence against the errant management.
