Mabvuku residents discuss service delivery challenges
Harare Residents'
Trust (HRT)
November 09, 2011
Residents here
met to discuss their bills and other service delivery challenges.
Questions that emerged were council's charges for alleged illegal
activities and the high interest rates being charged by the City
of Harare. The residents also demanded to know the use of the administration
levy charged by the City of Harare, seeing that service delivery
at district offices is poor with harassment and abuse of residents
by city employees rampant.
As a way to
deal with non-collection of refuse, residents resolved to conduct
clean up campaigns as a measure of protecting themselves against
disease outbreaks. Residents said they would complement the current
dialogue with policymakers and service providers by also mobilising
for protests at the District Offices.
The residents
alleged that there was rampant acts of corruption in the billing
system with strong indications that money paid for rates and rentals
did not reflect at Rowan Martin, and the interest being charged
is too much to enable citizens to clear their debt.
