CHRA condolence message on the death of Retired General Mujuru
Combined Harare
Residents Association (CHRA)
August 17, 2011
The Board, staff
and membership of the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA)
has received with shock and utter disbelief the sad news of the
untimely yet painful death of Retired Army General Solomon Mujuru.
General Mujuru was instrumental in the liberation of our country
and the Association dips its flag in honour of this national hero.
CHRA would like to send its heartfelt condolences to Vice President
Joyce Mujuru, the Mujuru family and the nation at large on the sad
death of one of Zimbabwe's illustrious sons whose track record
speaks for itself. Mujuru role in the liberation of this country
is well documented and in no doubt. He was a very capable army officer
and one of Zimbabwe's most respected military leaders.
While Mujuru
drabbled in politics and at one time a member of Parliament for
Chikomba Constituency we honour him for his professionalism during
his call of duty. Thus on the occasion of his untimely death we
cannot help but make the following demands,
- That our
Government declares Retired Solomon Mujuru a national hero and
that he be buried at the National Heroes acre.
- A thorough
and independent forensic inquiry into the circumstances leading
to his death.
- We call for
urgent security sector reform within the ranks of our security
sector as part of a broad program for free and fair elections.
We urge all
residents of Harare to attend his burial and pay their last respects
to one of Zimbabwe's liberation heroes.
