Water burst
Combined Harare
Residents Association (CHRA)
August 03, 2011
CHRA is informing
all Harare residents of a dangerous and wasteful water burst along
Lanark road off Sam Nujoma. We have informed the Mayor's office
directly and also raised the issue with Harare water who have promised
to attend to the problem as soon as possible. Several mega litres
of treated water are gushing out making it a cause for concern because
today (03-08-2011), the whole of Mabelreign had no water. We urge
motorists to exercise caution when approaching this area as the
roads are slippery.
In 2010, the
Mayor's office reported that 40% of Harare water (treated)
is lost through leakage and C.O.H. continues to increase water bills
based on the high demand of water treatment chemicals which they
say are very expensive to procure.
CHRA has always
reiterated the need for C.O.H. to put in place proper maintenance
strategies for its entire infrastructure in order to avert situations
like these. Water bursts adversely affect residents in that they
are forced to pay for the loss through the fixed charges which was
increased in this year's annual budget.
