Zanu PF should stop fooling residents
Combined Harare
Residents Association (CHRA)
July 29, 2011
Zanu PF is at
it again. In Sunningdale 2, youths have begun a door to door house
visit, demanding names of landlords, their I.D numbers and phone
numbers. CHRA identified one of the youths as Ephraim but affectionately
known in the Zanu PF District circles as Major Killer. Residents
fear that they are creating a parallel voter's roll which
they will use to coerce people to vote for Zanu PF in the up coming
elections which are most likely to be held next year after the completion
of the constitution making process. This week, youths embarked on
a door to door visit, forcing residents to attend Zanu PF meetings
and subsequently vote for the former ruling party in the event that
an election date has been set. Residents have been forced to live
in perpetual fear since these thugs have threatened to deal with
those that defy their directive.
To that end,
Combined Harare Residents Association would like to urge residents
of Sunningdale 2 and all other areas affected by such uncouth political
behavior not to cooperate with these thugs as they do not reserve
the constitutional right of creating a parallel voter's roll
neither do they have the mandate of augmenting services provided
by the Registrar General. Elections are imminent but a bonafide
voter registration process will surface where all residents will
have a chance to register to vote in the up-coming elections. No
one has got the right to collect personal information belonging
to anyone unless instructed to do so by state authorities, hence
we call upon Z.R.P in Sunningdale to be on guard against these desperate
people who are afraid of losing a free and fair election. Meanwhile,
CHRA urges all residents in Harare to go to their nearest Registrar
General's office and confirm their details on the voters roll,
if not registered; one should take their metal I.D (valid passport
or metal driver's license) and proof of residence and get
registered. We say NO to VIOLENCE and yes to a peaceful, free and
fair election. CHRA remains committed to good local governance practiced
on a non partisan basis.
