Abduction
of Tonderai Ndira
Combined Harare
Residents Association (CHRA)

Early this morning (14
May), Tonderai Ndira, a civic activist and member of the Combined
Harare Residents Association (CHRA), was abducted from his home
in Chizhanje (Mabvuku, Harare) by 9 armed men (including 1 policeman
from ZRP Goromonzi identified by an eye-witness). He was assaulted,
then driven away naked in a white Toyota single cab truck (Reg no
772-224T). ZRP Law & Order have denied that they conducted the
raid on Mr Ndira's house.
CHRA is extremely concerned for the safety of Mr Ndira who has been
harassed and arrested on numerous occasions for his work as a community
organiser. We appeal for immediate action to ensure his safety.
Please telephone
or sms the Zimbabwean authorities to demand that the whereabouts
of Mr Ndira are determined immediately and that he is given access
to his lawyers.
