CHRA demonstrators released from police custody

I write to you once again to say thank you for the support you continue to give to Harare residents. Our colleagues, who were yesterday arrested and subsequently detained by the police were released from police custody around 5pm. They were ordered to pay $250 000 admission of guilty fines. They faced charges of contravening Section 7 (b) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Chapter 10:15).

Our lawyers Sarah Chishiri, Brian Phenduka, and Wilbert Mandinde will file court papers challenging the validity of the charges since the MOA was repealed.
