The generic letter
of objection that was adopted at the CHRA public meeting held at
the New Ambassador Hotel yesterday evening. This letter came about
after residents expressed concern at the manner in which the City
of Harare and the Zimbabwe National Water Authority imposed unreasonable,
unjustified and unlawful rates increases in water with effect from
June 2006.
Our lawyers, the
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights have advised us that it would
be in the best interests of administrative justice if residents
lodged their objections with or without the payment i.e you can
boycott payment of your rates and lodge your objections or you can
pay but still lodge your objection for the record.
Therefore, please
fill in your details in the letter, send the completed letter to
the CHRA office at Daventry House Room 103 at Corner South Avenue
and Angwa Street Alternatively, you can post or hand deliver to
Town House (Make sure you have two copies, one which they will stamp
to show that they have received your letter and the other one is
for their records.)
It is envisaged
that once this action is complete and we have a large number of
objections, we shall shall be able to lodge a court action to interdict
the City of Harare from demanding these illegal rates on the basis
of our objections.
Hence it is imperative
that CHRA and or the Zimbabwe
Lawyers for Human Rights receive copies of the letters that
you send to the municipality.
Thank you for
your cooperation.
