Some Mbare tenants face eviction today
Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA)
February 28, 2006

Our Ward Coordinator from Mbare has reported that some residents in Mbare's Majubeki lines and others from flats, have been issued with eviction notices for allegedly failing to settle water bills and other penalty charges by the City of Harare, and the deadline is 28 February 2006.

The ward coordinator, Rudo Tsikira told CHRA's Information desk that the residents were only advised of the impending evictions last week.

There have been previous evictions in Mbare and the City of Harare is determined to continue the legacy of evicting people without due regard to the laws of the country.

CHRA condemns this blatant disregard of the laws of the country and urges affected residents to seek legal recourse through CHRA legal representatives (Tafadzwa Mugabe) at the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights for immediate court action to stop the City of Harare from evicting them.

For more details on this matter, please contact our Ward Coordinator Rudo Tsikira on her mobile number +263-23 288 879.
