Police
bar CHRA from putting its banner at the Anglican Cathedral Hall today
Today was a bad day. The police barred us from putting up our banner at the front of the Anglican Cathedral Hall arguing we could disturb the peace. CHRA has been holding public meetings at the Anglican Cathedral for the past month every fortnight without violating any law. Residents were gathering to discuss the City of Harare's Supplementary and 2006 budget. The meeting however proceeded as planned with residents vowing to engage in other means to punish the Harare Commission for its continued violation of the Urban Council's Act (Chapter 29:15). Among key alternatives to fight against this dictatorship by the illegal commission is sustained rates boycotts, demonstrations at district offices in the high and low-density suburbs. But further details on this and other strategies will be finalised at upcoming CHRA meetings. A full report of the meeting proceedings will be available within two days at the latest.
