Relations (Domestic Workers) Employment (Amendment) Regulations, 2006

IT is hereby notified
that the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, in terms
of section 17 of the Labour Act [Chapter 28:01], has made the following
regulations:—
1. These regulations
may be cited as the Labour Relations (Domestic Workers) Employment (Amendment)
Regulations, 2006 (No. 16).
2. Section 6 of the
Labour Relations (Domestic Workers) Employment (Amendment) Regulations,
1992, published in Statutory Instrument 377 of 1992 (hereinafter called
"the principal regulations") is repealed and the following substituted—
"Accommodation,
transport, lights and fuel
6. A domestic worker—
(a) who does not reside on the premises or his or her employer shall
eb entitled to the minimjum monthly allowances specified in the Second
Schedule;
(b) who dose reside on the premises of his or her employer shall be
entitled to free lodging, free water for basic domestic needs in or
about the area of the premises, free lights and free fuel for cooking
or, if no water lights or fuel are provided, to the minimum monthly
allowances specified in the Second Schedule in respect of water, lights
and fuel for cooking.".
3. With effect from
the 1st March, 2006, the First Schedule to the principal regulations is
repealed and the following is substituted—

4. With effect from
the 1st March, 2006, the principal regulations are amended by the repeal
of the Second Schedule and the substitution of—

EXPLANATORY
NOTE
(This note does not form part of the regulations, but is intended
to explain their contents.)
The
effect of these regulations is to increase domestic workers' minimum wages
and allowances with effect from the 1st March, 2006.
