Attack on Zaka District Resident Magistrate and death threat to Harare lawyer

The Legal Resources Foundation wishes to express its shock and outrage at the stabbing of the Zaka District resident Magistrate, Mr Godfrey Gwaka, and at the death threats made to Mr Jeremy Callow, a Harare lawyer, both reported in the press on 29 August 2002.

The LRF notes that these incidents appear to be reprisals against the judicial officers who are simply doing their work, and condemns these acts of lawlessness and barbarism unreservedly and in the strongest terms. The LRF calls upon the law-enforcement agencies to bring the culprits to book in order to restore security for judicial officers, and to ensure uninterrupted continuity of judicial services.
