More police raids on ZCTU
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU)
March 27, 2007

The ZCTU Chinhoyi office has been visited by 3 men in plain clothes who wanted to find out who had been distributing flyers on the April 3 and 4 2007 stay away. They questioned the acting Regional Officer, Wilson Kambanje and threatened him saying they were closely watching his moves.

Meanwhile, about 40 armed policeman raided the Zimbabwe Domestic Workers' Union offices in Gweru demanding to see an official there, Zacharia Chikwenya. The policeman had no search warrant but said they were looking for flyers on the ZCTU stay away and wanted to know who had been distributing the flyers overnight. Mr Chikwenya was not in the office when the policeman came.

Going by this trend, we expect the raids to increase in the next few days leading up to the stay away.

We will keep you updated on the situation.
