ZCTU condolence message to the Jokonya family
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU)
June 26, 2006

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) received with sadness, the news of the passing away of Dr. Tichaona Joseph Benjamin Jokonya, the member of the House of Assembly for Chikomba Constituency and Minister of Information and Publicity.

A distinguished diplomat and as the Minister of Information and Publicity, Cde Jokonya had embarked on strategic reforms on the country’s media scenery which the ZCTU hoped would open up the media and also present a good working environment for journalists and media practitioners in the Country.

Of particular interest to the ZCTU was the late Minister’s concern over the operations of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings (ZBH) in which a restructuring exercise was already underway.

The ZCTU hopes that, on the continuation of the Minister’s vision to make the ZBH viable, the welfare of the workers would be given priority.

On behalf of the workers, the ZCTU sends its condolences to the Jokonya family, friends and colleagues and all Zimbabweans on the sad loss of Cde Tichaona Jokonya

May his soul rest in peace.

Wellington Chibebe
Secretary General
