Meeting in Bulawayo at ZCTU Offices on 9 July 2005 to discuss among other issues, the current happenings in the ZCTU, observe the following:

  • That there is a deliberate attempt by people calling themselves " Aggrieved ZCTU Affiliate Workers Union", to destroy the ZCTU by among other things the use of violence and intimidation,
  • That there is an attempt to unconstitutionally remove the legitimately elected President of the ZCTU, Lovemore Matombo; Vice-President Lucia Matibenga; Secretary General, Wellington Taylor Chibhebhe; Women’s Advisory Council Secretary Thabitha Khumalo,
  • That there is a deliberate misinformation on the situation at the ZCTU in order to smear the names of the ZCTU
  • That there is a constant fabrication of cases against the leadership by a few people who have malicious and political agendas

We therefore reaffirm that:

  • We are firmly behind the current leadership of Lovemore Matombo, Lucia Matibenga, Wellington Chibhebhe, and Thabitha Khumalo until their terms of office expires.
  • No individual(s) have the right to remove the current ZCTU leadership. Their positions will only be reviewed by Congress.
  • That the so-called Aggrieved Affiliates are only a group of people who have not consulted us and therefore have no mandate on what they are doing.
  • We will be seeking the constitutional removal of people who are bringing the name of the ZCTU into disrepute through their unorthodox means of trying to get into power.
