ZCTU-WAC
secretary attacked
Zimbabwe
Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU)
July 09, 2005
The Zimbabwe
Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Secretary for the Women Advisory
Council, Thabitha Khumalo was assaulted by a group of youths a a
ZCTU WAC meeting aat the Quality International hotel today.
A group of more
than 30 holigans who purport to be Trade Unionist and belonging
to the so called aggrieved affiliates of the ZCTU stormed the meeting
when it was just about to start and called for its cancellation.
In the ensuing
melee Thabitha Khumalo was severely assulted by thge rogue group
who shouted osbsenities at her. They also attacked the Chairpeson
of the meeting Phoebe Vhareta.
Thabitha is
at the moment admitted at Avenues clinic awaiting an x-ray scan.
She was badly injured.
This is the
same group of people who have been calling for the resignation of
the ZCTU leadership.
The ZCTU is
very worried by this callous behaviour which is coming from hired
people who are not even Trade Union members. This is deliberate
political interference of Trade Union affairs by a group of people
who are furthering their political politicalk agenda. This type
of action can not be tolerated as it is a violation of trade Union
rights and also criminal.
