activists arrested
- June 09, 2005
Three activists
of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions were arrested this morning by
Police in Bulawayo for allegedly organising a 2 day job stayaway.
The three Percy Mcijo,
David Shambare and Ambrose Manenji were picked up from their homes at
the same time at around 5:00am this morning and taken to the Bulawayo
Central Police Station.
The ZCTU has not ascertained
about the fate of the 3 Who are still in Police custody but has already
instructed lawyers to handle the issue.
The job stayaway which
started today has been organised by a broad alliance of Civic Oreganisation
who are protesting on the government;'s so called clean up exercise which
has displaced more than 200 000 families in the urban areas and virtually
stopped informal trading in the city centres.
